Organic Movement Going Strong

The fact that organic products are receiving a lot of popularity is nothing new. For the past 10 years, consumers have been becoming increasingly more educated about the benefits of consuming organic. This in turn has led to consumers demanding more transparency about how their food is grown and produced.

According to a recent article in Fresh Plaza, organic food sales in the U.S. totaled approximately $43 billion in 2016, up $3.3 billion from 2015, according to the latest figures from the Organic Trade Association. Overall, organic accounted for 5.3% of total food sales.

The best news is that this growth isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon. In fact, research shows that the organic good market is projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of more than 14% between 2016 and 2021 globally.

As the organic trend continues to grow it will become increasingly important to educate your customers on what exactly “organic” entails, especially as new products and new certifications come into the market.

For a long time, taste and flavor have been the top contributors to the organic movement. Recently however, environmental concerns have once again become popular. In fact, the organic movement started in the 1940’s in order to decrease the use of chemicals and enhance better soil management. At Organics Unlimited, we are no strangers to the organic movement either. Not only is our produce certified 100% organic, but we are a fourth-generation family-owned company. We know organic and are proud to give consumers the fresh, healthy produce they want and deserve.
